About Meritas
Meritas is a global alliance of leading independent law firms, founded in 1990. It operates across more than 240+ markets in 90 countries, including the world’s major financial centres and most of its significant emerging economies. The alliance comprises 171 member firms and approximately 9,261 lawyers.
In Africa, we have access to 8 member firms, including trusted local counsel in Mauritius, South Africa and Nigeria. Each firm is the exclusive Meritas member in its market.
Built-In Rigor
Membership is by invitation only. Firms are vetted against strict criteria covering depth of practice expertise, client satisfaction, professional ethics, and cybersecurity standards. To maintain membership, every firm undergoes recertification every three years.
Meritas is the only law firm alliance with a comprehensive, ongoing quality assurance program. Peer-driven reviews are collected on every referral matter. Quality of service and value for fees are measured on each matter. That process has been in place for more than 30 years.
Meritas also provides member lawyers with an exclusive program of events and professional development, available to lawyers at all levels, from senior partners to early-career lawyers. These include industry sessions, international practice group forums, and networking events, delivered both in-person and online.
